Heinings buying guide

Veldkraft lists 187 heinings, priced from R12 to R11 418, from brands including Barnes. Orders are delivered to all nine provinces and to Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho and Eswatini.

Match the fence to the job

For a security perimeter use palisade or 358 high-security mesh, topped with razor wire. For farm boundaries and camps use field fence or wire with droppers and strainer posts. For gardens, pets and poultry use welded or diamond mesh.

Plan posts and stays

Mesh fencing needs line posts about every 2.5 m to 3 m and strainer posts with stays at every corner, gate and change of direction. On long straight runs add a strainer at regular intervals so the fence stays tight.

Electric fencing

Any new or altered electric fence in South Africa needs an electric fence system Certificate of Compliance from a registered installer.

Delivery to site

Panels, posts and rolls are long and heavy, so they travel by road freight on a pallet. The road-freight fee is priced by weight and shown at checkout before you pay.

Heinings: common questions

What is the most secure fence for a home?

Palisade or 358 high-security mesh, 1.8 m to 2.4 m high, with razor wire or electric strands on top. The small openings of 358 mesh are hard to climb and hard to cut with hand tools.
